Jehovah Jireh

My favorite name for God is Jehovah Jireh. Jehovah Jireh means “The Lord will Provide”. This characteristic of our great God carries with it insurmountable  peace in difficult circumstances. Let’s unwrap this wonderful attribute and explore the promises of our Father!

Philippians 4:19 says, “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Wow! Let’s consider this for a moment. God’s riches in glory are immeasurable. Eternal. Without end. Incomprehensible. And it is according to these riches that He will supply our needs! This being said, we know that He will never run out of the provisions needed to provide for us richly. What an amazing promise!

Matthew 7:11 tells us, “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” God is the ultimate, ideal Father. He is there for us and makes wise choices with our very best interests in mind. He also delights in giving good gifts to His children! When
we make the decision to trust in the sacrifice of Christ alone that He made for us on the cross for our Salvation, we become joint heirs with Christ and are His children. Just as a parent finds joy in watching their children open presents on Christmas morning, so also is God’s heart warmed when He sees His children enjoying the gifts He provides for them.

There are so many passages in the Bible that talk about God’s provision (Psalm 34:9-10, Matthew 6:31-34, and Psalm 37:25 to name a few), so it must be important that we really get this concept down. God will not forsake His children, and He has promised to provide
for all of our needs. Our Father always keeps His promises – He is SO trustworthy – and we can have faith that His Word is true.

Tough times will still come. There will still be times when we cannot pay the bills, we lose our jobs, or the refrigerator breaks with no replacement. God will continue to be faithful
to bring trials into our lives for His glory and our good. But we can always be certain of this: God will never forget or forsake us. He will never leave us stranded, and although at times it may feel as though He is not providing we can trust that His plan is better than ours and remind ourselves of the many times in scripture that He has promised to provide. Faith is believing even when you don’t understand or feel that it’s true. It is a choice to believe in what God has promised no matter what. These promises of our Father’s love and
provision are true, and we can rest in the knowledge that He is in control and has promised to live up to His name: Jehovah Jireh!

Bethany Dunn
Bethany heard about Vision of Hope while attending Word of Life Bible Institute in Florida. When she began praying about what God wanted her to do after graduating, He kept bringing Vision of Hope to her mind. Knowing that there was an internship available, Bethany applied, was accepted, and began her internship with VOH in July, 2012. Since then she has been amazed at the opportunities God has given her to learn more about His Word and how it applies to everyday life. Bethany now serves on staff at Vision of Hope.
