Three Cheers for the Snow Guys

Snow being cleared from parking lotGod highly values every person in His family.  We see evidence of that throughout the Bible.  Each time we come across one of those long lists of men and women with unusual sounding names, we are reminded that God cares about individual people.  The same is true at the end of many of the New Testament letters where time is devoted to talking about the activities of various members of the team or requests to greet men and women who are serving Jesus together.

Ministry in the storm

This week brought another snow and ice storm to our corner of God’s world.  The winds blew and the storm raged, so most of us us found a warm place to get out of the weather.  But not Tony Costa and Andrew King. They oversee our maintenance department here at Faith.  Tony and Andrew have done a wonderful job at keeping the parking lots and sidewalks cleaned off and ready for the many ministries that take place on our campus.  Three cheers for the snow guys.  None of the rest of us could do our work without them.

Faithful servants behind the scenes everywhere you look

I was stuck this week with how much of ministry goes on behind the scenes.  For every person who sings a solo, teaches a class, or preaches a sermon, there are dozens and dozens of men and women just like the snow guys.  They clean the building and greet the guests.  They watch the babies and tune the piano.  They make the coffee and turn off the lights.  And many of them do the same thing over and over with very little recognition or praise.

Let’s cheer them today and everyday

I am going to try to do a better job at slowing down and thinking about all the people who serve God faithfully behind the scenes.  Would you like to join me in that endeavor?  Let’s thank them for their work.  Let’s acknowledge  the importance of their place on the team.  Because it is probably go to snow again sometime in the future.  And I don’t want to contemplate life without the snow guys.
