Why is the Resurrection Important?

The Resurrection

I Corinthians 15:12-34

Intro:

“Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.” v32

Is this it? Do we have nothing to look forward to after this life?

l If the Grave Wins…

I Corinthians 15:12-19

[Small groups] List the consequences of no resurrection:

  • Christ has not been raised (v13, 16)
  • Our proclamation has no foundation (v14)
  • Your faith has no foundation (v14)
  • We are false witnesses (v15)
  • Your faith is worthless (v17)
  • You are still in your sins (the curse of Adam) (v17)
  • The dead have perished forever (v18)
  • Christians should be pitied more than anyone (v19)

l If Jesus Wins…

I Corinthians 15:20-28

[Small groups] List the consequences of a real resurrection:

  • The grave of Adam is defeated (sin is defeated) (v21-22)
  • Christ is the first fruits of the resurrection (v20, 23)
  • Those belonging to Christ will be raised as well (v23)
  • The end will come (v24)
  • Christ will become king of all (v24-25)
  • Death will be defeated (v26)
  • Everything is subject to God (v27-28)
  • God will be all in all (v28)

l Application…

          I Corinthians 15:30-34

In what ways might a Christian live and be pitied by the world around him?

  • Be baptized
  • Be in danger (take risks)

Persecution, ridicule, being uncool, suffering

  • Dying daily

Denying the desires of the flesh
